ARTISTS:
TRIGGER THEORY
Trigger Theory, the fast rising pop-rock band are originally from New Zealand, now based on the Gold Coast. After building a large fan base, releasing two CDs and a music video, the band are now looking to spread their music over the ditch. Trigger Theory have released two half-album sized CDs (07 & 09) with the latest, entitled 'Better Days', to be spread heavily over Australia in 2009. Keep an eye out for these guys, as you will be hearing more and more about them in the future.
RAPTURE RUCKUS
Rapture - aka Brad Dring - is one of NZ most promising hip-hop artists. With a strong New Zealand fan-base, Rapture Ruckus have been turning heads around the globe, with the recent album, I Believe, mastered by LA hip-hop guru Brian Gardner (Eminem, Dr Dre, etc). The monumental success of Rapture's recent CD/DVD, "Live At Worlds End", represents the next step in this exciting artist's journey.
LYDIA COLE
21 year-old New Zealand artist Lydia has been plying her craft, drawing often fragile songs from her experience and playing them to anybody who might care to listen for a few years now.
She ended up at Roundhead studio's (Niel Finn) with a NZ On Air New Recording Artist grant, producer Nic Manders and a cast of eager stalwarts of the Auckland scene. Lydia came out with an EP also featuring Mr Finn himself, so impressed by what he heard when Lydia set to work in his studio that he was soon joining in playing keyboards on the sessions.
Love Will Find A Way comes out in May. Expect to hear it in the small corners of your world, and a lot more from Lydia Cole in the future.
MAGNIFY
Magnify is a combination of passionate song writing and explosive music. A melding of rock and worship expression, a place of intimacy and outreach.
Consistently leading worship week to week, year to year, so their worship flows as a natural expression of their lives. Magnify's aim is to create music, breaking down the walls of ritualised religion and building pathways back to the Father.
MARK LOWNDES
Described as Stevie Wonder meets Jack Johnson, Mark Lowndes will take you on an intimate journey that will get you movin', from sipping coconut juice and chasing wild pigs to a political commentary on the oft-corrupt systems of the western world, Mark’s message is to just be natural and passionate. Describing his music as good acoustic, rootsy, soul; Mark has had the pleasure of being able to share his music and message throughout South East Queensland, Sydney and Melbourne; and recently performed at Parachute Music Festival in New Zealand and also Easterfest in Toowoomba. His debut EP, released late in 2008 has already sold over 1,200 copies at live performances. Mark is due to release his debut single and film-clip off the album in July 2009.
ANNA MATHEWSON
Returning
to Australia in late 2004 from her musical adventures in the Middle
East and Europe, Anna Mathewson and her 5-piece band immediately set to
work on her debut album “Not Made For Average”. The 10-track album was
released at The Basement in Sydney July 06, and featured on Sydney
radio. Anna has set her
course and is striding onto the Australian music scene with great
strength. Do not expect her to make a quiet entry!
STU LARSEN
After a nomadic journey, touring all over Australia in 2008 with nothing but a car, a guitar and a whicker stool, Stu Larsen has come out the other side refined in charachter and craft.
Stu's development into a mature and thoughtful songwriter has been an ongoing process that has seen him independantly release an EP Already Late and debut album Lies Will Keep You Out and go on to tour both releases extensively and independently. With a brand new EP The Black Tree released in April 2009, Stu is set to head back overseas to NZ and Japan to share some of his new music in the coming months.
THE SMART
The co-incidental meeting of four musicians: Jeremy Peter Allen (vox/guitar), Paul Wright (bass), Josh Goode (drums) and John Leighton (keys) has resulted in success that an unsigned band can only dream of. An impressive gig history has translated easily into the studio, where it has been distilled into The Smart's first ep Midnight Goodnight. Each track is a force, a perfectly realised pop song, emotive, chrystalline and ultimately, profound.
ENDORSEMENTS
GMA-ANZ is the best things that has happened to Christian music in Australia and New Zealand in a long time. No longer having to try and reinvent the wheel individually, we now have a vehicle that enables us to show genuine unity as a sector, and work side by side in a way that all facets can prosper. With Christ and music as our common bond, the GMA-ANZ conference is an event that MUST be on your calendar annually.
Jared Haschek - Compliments of Gus/Humber Records
I see the GMA-ANZ Conference as a unique opportunity to build relationship with key Christians in the Music Industries of Australia and New Zealand. As contacts and relationships grow, so will the impact of what we all do. Mark de Jong - CEO/Founder Parachute Music The GMA conference is the single most important event of the year for any Christian in the music industry. Finally an opportunity for true partnership, relationship building and genuine community in such a fragile industry. Andy Mak - Delusion Records/Manager New Empire Working in the music industry can be quite a solo existence and I found the last GMA conference a great opportunity for community. There's not many places where you can chat over a coffee with other bands and artists, with the CEO's of the major festivals & stores, with studios, music lawyers, managers and media. The GMA conference is well worth the investment for the things you will learn and for the time you will spend with others in your industry.... after all this world is about people. Kathy Johnston - Studio Manager The Grove Studios & co-owner Translator Records Most of us are pretty wary of the old 'you only get out of it what you put in'. Try thinking of it this way - GMA is a chance for us to follow Jesus' words, and "do for others what we would want others to do for us". By doing that we just might find a lot of benefit for ourselves. Geoff Mascord - Musician's Prayer Network
